Everything you might want to know about creating, managing, and tracking QR codes with OnestQR.

Getting started

What is OnestQR?

OnestQR is a dynamic QR code generator that lets you create, customize, edit, and track QR codes from one dashboard. You can start for free without creating an account.

Is OnestQR really free?

Yes. Guest and Member accounts are free forever. You get dynamic QR codes, full analytics, custom designs, and editing on every plan. Pro is optional and only needed when you want unlimited codes and higher limits.

Do I need to sign up to create a QR code?

No. You can start as a Guest with zero signup. OnestQR gives you a secure 5-word recovery phrase so you can return to your dashboard anytime. If you prefer email login, create a free Member account instead.

How do I create my first QR code?

Click Create QR, paste your content (a URL, Wi-Fi details, email, plain text, or contact info), customize the design if you want, then download as PNG or SVG. The whole process takes seconds.

What types of QR codes can I create?

OnestQR supports website links, plain text, email addresses, phone numbers, SMS, Wi-Fi networks, vCard contacts, PDF links, Google review links, menus, event pages, and more. The generator detects the content type automatically.

Accounts & access

What is the difference between Guest, Member, and Pro?

All three tiers use the same dashboard and include dynamic codes, analytics, editing, and custom designs. Guest needs no signup and uses a recovery phrase (10 codes). Member adds email login (100 codes). Pro unlocks unlimited codes and priority support for $5.99/month.

What is the recovery phrase?

When you start as a Guest, OnestQR generates a unique 5-word recovery phrase. It works like a password — save it somewhere safe. Enter it anytime to access your dashboard without an email or password.

What happens if I lose my recovery phrase?

Your recovery phrase is the only way to access a Guest account. If you lose it, we cannot recover your codes. We strongly recommend writing it down or saving it in a password manager. You can also create a free Member account with email login to avoid relying on a phrase.

Can I upgrade from Guest to Member?

Yes. You can create a free Member account with your email at any time. Your existing codes and settings carry over, and you get a higher code limit plus standard email-and-password login.

How does Pro billing work?

Pro costs $5.99 per month and is billed through Dodo Payments. You can upgrade when you need unlimited QR codes and priority support. Cancel anytime — there is no long-term contract.

Dynamic QR codes

What is a dynamic QR code?

A dynamic QR code points to a short redirect URL that you control. When someone scans it, they are sent to your current destination. You can change that destination anytime without reprinting the code.

What is the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?

A static QR code encodes data directly — change the link and you need a new code. A dynamic QR code routes through OnestQR, so you can edit the destination, track scans, and manage everything from your dashboard after printing.

Can I edit a QR code after printing it?

Yes. That is the main benefit of dynamic QR codes. Update the link on menus, business cards, posters, or packaging whenever you want. The printed code stays the same.

Do my QR codes expire?

No. Your QR codes do not expire on any plan. As long as your account is active and within your plan limits, your codes keep working.

Are there limits on how often I can change a destination?

No. You can update redirects as often as you need. There are no redirect caps on any plan.

Design & downloads

Can I customize the look of my QR codes?

Yes. Adjust colors to match your brand, round the corners, and add your logo to the center. Every change previews live so you always see the final result before downloading.

What file formats can I download?

You can export high-resolution PNG for screens and print, or scalable SVG for any size without quality loss. PDF export is coming soon.

Will a customized QR code still scan reliably?

Yes, as long as you keep enough contrast and do not cover too much of the code with your logo. OnestQR uses error correction and shows a live preview so you can confirm scannability before downloading.

Can I copy a QR code to my clipboard?

Yes. You can copy your QR code image to the clipboard in one click for quick use in documents, slides, or design tools.

Analytics & tracking

Can I track QR code scans?

Yes. Every dynamic QR code includes real-time scan analytics on all plans — Guest, Member, and Pro. See when and how people engage with your codes from one dashboard.

What analytics data do you show?

You can see total scans, trends over time, and engagement patterns to measure campaigns, menu views, event attendance, and offline-to-online conversions. Deeper analytics features are expanding over time.

Do you show ads to people who scan my QR codes?

No. Scanners see your content — not our ads. OnestQR never puts advertising on your QR code destinations.

Pricing & plans

How much does Pro cost?

Pro is $5.99 per month. It includes unlimited dynamic QR codes, unlimited analytics, custom designs, editing, and priority support. Guest and Member plans remain free.

Do I need a credit card to get started?

No. Guest and Member accounts are completely free with no credit card required. You only need payment details if you choose to upgrade to Pro.

Are core features locked behind a paywall?

No. Dynamic codes, editing, analytics, and custom designs are included on every plan. The main difference between tiers is how many QR codes you can create.

Can I cancel Pro anytime?

Yes. Cancel your Pro subscription whenever you want. There is no forced trial and no long-term commitment.

Is there a free trial for Pro?

There is no forced trial. You can use Guest or Member for free indefinitely. Upgrade to Pro only when you actually need unlimited codes.

Privacy & security

Is my data secure?

Yes. We use industry-standard security practices to protect your account and QR code data. Guest accounts are secured by your recovery phrase, and Member accounts use email and password authentication.

Do you sell my data?

No. We do not sell your personal data or scan data to third parties.

Who can see my QR code destinations?

Only you can manage your codes from your dashboard. People who scan your QR code are sent to the destination you set — they do not see your account or other codes.

Printing & use cases

What size should I print my QR code?

For reliable scanning, print at least 2 cm (about 0.8 inches) square. Larger is better for posters, signage, and distance scanning. Use SVG for large-format print to keep edges sharp.

Can I use OnestQR for restaurant menus?

Yes. Restaurants use OnestQR for digital menus, Google review requests, Wi-Fi access, and promotions. Update your menu link anytime without reprinting table cards.

Can I put a QR code on my business card?

Absolutely. Create a vCard or link QR code, customize it to match your brand, and download a high-resolution PNG or SVG for print.

Can I use QR codes for events?

Yes. Use QR codes for registration, schedules, tickets, feedback forms, and sponsor links. Change destinations during the event and track engagement in real time.

Technical & troubleshooting

Why is my QR code not scanning?

Common causes are low contrast, printing too small, glare on laminated surfaces, or a logo covering too much of the code. Try increasing size, boosting contrast, or reducing logo coverage. Test with your phone before mass printing.

Does it work on all phones?

Yes. Modern iPhones and Android phones scan QR codes with the built-in camera app. No special app is required.

What browsers does OnestQR support?

OnestQR works in all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on desktop and mobile.

Is API access available?

API access is coming soon. It will let you generate, edit, and manage QR codes programmatically for apps, platforms, and internal tools.

Can I use a custom domain for my QR redirects?

Custom domains are on the roadmap and coming soon. For now, all dynamic codes route through OnestQR redirects while keeping full edit and analytics control.
